Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was brought up on the island of Madeira, Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo had three other siblings. His mother was called Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro and his father Jose Diniz Aveiro.
Cristiano Ronaldo started off playing football for his local team, Nacional, it was clear by the time he was 12, that he was the best football player Madeira had ever produced. The main Portuguese clubs became interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo. Interested parties were Porto and Boavista however, in the end Cristiano Ronaldo decided to play for his boyhood favourite club which was Sporting Lisbon
Cristiano Ronaldo did not progess as fast as he wanted but everyone around him was impressed with his raw talent and maturity for one so young. Cristiano Ronaldo became the fans favorite player. He netted 2 goals against Moreirense in his very first game
Soon after, Cristiano Ronaldo dazzled the crowds with his spectacular skills in the U17 European Championship and then lead Sporting Lisbon to win the league. Cristiano Ronaldo became the only player in Sporting's history to play for the U18, U21, B team, and first team in the same season.
It was thanks to his play at the U17 European Championship that Cristiano Ronaldo originally caught the eye of top European clubs like Liverpool and Juventus. It was, however, only after a friendly game against Manchester United that the interest became serious. During the game, Sporting went on to beat Manchester United 3 - 1, and Cristiano Ronaldo had a part in two of the goals. On the plane ride back home after this match, Alex Ferguson decided to sign him
Cristiano Ronaldo became the most expensive teenager to sign in Britain, after Sporting accepted a deal for around £12.25 million. People were worried that he was not a proven talent.
Cristiano Ronaldo quickly silenced his critics in his first appearance for Man United. He also came on the pitch to a standing ovation and then aided in two of three United goals. and received the Man of the Match Award to boot.
