~*congrats yasmin for "Mukhsin"!!*~

"Mukhsin for Berlinale 2007!!"

Orked is ten. Mukhsin is thirteen. They are the best of friends.

With "Mukhsin", I try to examine one common and uncomfortable human experience:

What happens when your very best friend - someone with whom you've been learning to do cool best-friend things like climbing trees, flying kites, riding bicycles and even getting into fights with other kids - starts to develop romantic notions about you?

It happened to me before. Both ways. That is to say, I have had good friends who fell in love with me, and I fell unexpectedly in love with a buddy once.

I feel it's an interesting human condition to look at, because I myself have never been able to understand how, sometimes, something as beautiful as Love can threaten to end something else that's just as beautiful - Friendship.

Has this ever happened to you before? - yasmin

its not an easy bussines to create a muvi but its damn easy to critisize tho,"mukhsin" not only presented Malaysia for 57th Berlin International Film Festival 2007,also been nominated for Best Asian Film at the 19th Tokyo International Film Festival.

MUKHSIN will open in Malaysia 2007 March. It has already been picked up for international distribution by Andy Lau’s Hong Kong-based Focus Films.(more)

*other achievements:
-Sepet (Slit Eyes), about a teenage Malay girl who falls in love with a Chinese video pirate. Sepet was well-received during its commercial release, and also won Best Asian Film at last year's Tokyo festival.
-Gubra (Anxiety), Yasmin had clearly grown in confidence, her style now more assured, tackling a bigger story with multiple characters. In fact, Gubra is essentially made up of two separate stories dealing with love, loss, compassion and forgiveness. Yet again, Yasmin met with some strong criticisms, especially for her portrayal of a religious man and his wife who befriend two prostitutes. And once more, Yasmin silenced her critics by again winning the top awards at the Malaysian Film Festival.
